The Homeschool Mother’s Journal – 7

The Homeschool Mother

In my life this week…

If you missed my post yesterday, you’ve just GOTTA read about my encounter with a scorpion a few days ago:

Is That a Scorpion in Your Pants?

(…and YES, there really was a scorpion in my pants!!!)

In our homeschool this week…

We are studying Medieval Europe and the Black Plague.

My son is completely enthralled with the subject, but I must admit that I’m a little grossed out by how people lived back then.

Just a few little nasty flees, living on the backs of rats killed off thousands and thousands of people. — Amazing!!!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

Next week I’ve planned a Girls Night Out with some of my favorite homeschool mommies.  WooHoo!  I can’t wait!!!

My favorite thing this week was…

I posted this pic of the AZ sunset (as seen from my front yard) on my facebook page yesterday, but I just had to post it again here!

AZ Sunset

It was, hands-down, my favorite thing this week.

What’s working/not working for us…

Can I confess that we’ve got spring fever, and everything seems a little “blah” for us this week?  I’m thinking that we need to take a few days off VERY SOON!

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I am getting ready to purchase Latin’s Not So Toughso we can get caught up on basic Latin in time to join the Classical Conversations group next year.

Does anyone else use it?  What do you think of it?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Here is a (kinda gross looking) picture of a science experiment that we did to see how lava flows.  I promised my little guy that I’d post it on my blog for him this week! :)

Flour & melted butter demonstrate how lava might flow from a volcano

.

Blessing to you & Happy Homeschooling,

Now it’s your turn to share!

You can find the link up guidelines

& graphics for your post HERE

I read your post about the scorpion…I too live in AZ (for 13 years) and had never been stung by a scorpion until this year! Glad you are ok! Take care!

  2. Kimberly says:

Sue,That picture of the sunset is unbelievable! God's creation really is amazing! We also tried the lava experiment this week. It really was not what I thought it was going to be but the kids sure had fun. I can't believe that you had a scorpion in your pants. I would have been so freaked out. I am glad to hear you are O.K. Have a wonderful weekend!Kimberly

  3. Yara says:

Again, sorry about the scorpion ::shudder::That volcano thing looks fun. It reminds me, my oldest asked if we could make a volcano. I guess I better figure out how to make a volcano.

Your pictures…always take my breath away. OK, the science experiment…can you provide details? That looks like some serious science fun!Yes, we have scorpions here, too. I have not had one sting me, yet…but, they lurk in my home in Fall and Spring. I'll have to share a story about the first time I saw one…and what my husband said….another time!Thank you….for all of your help and your words of encouragement! You are truly a blessings!

  9. Melissa says:

Oh Sue, you poor thing!! I think you remained very calm – my story would have to include fainting!! Just mentioning the word scorpion and I feel faint! I can't even imagine!God's creation is so gorgeous!! That picture is so beautiful – frame worthy for sure! With all our sickness lately, I am SO READY FOR SPRING!!!!!!!My daughter, Sarah, is using Level 2 of Latin's Not So Tough right now. It's very simple and user friendly. The later levels look the same way to me. We've also used Latin for Children Primer A – that one has worked really well for our very beginner Latin family :)

  10. washingtonpharmgirl says:

i trust you are fully recovered from the traumatic sting!

  11. Tonya @ Live the Adv says:

We took a field trip to Medieval Times in Atlanta today. While we were there we explored the dungeon a.k.a. Torture Museum. I really don't know what I was thinking. Oh. My. Goodness. To see how violent the Middle Ages really were– we really tend to glamorize it way to much. Oh and the chastity belt, just let me say that I'm so glad we aren't forced to wear those! Ouch- in big capital letters! Here's to no scorpion stings this week…. :) Blessings!

  12. Mrs. O says:
