Northern Arizona snow and the Grand Canyon

So, the weather man said. “snow in the high country…” and my family decided at the very last minute to throw everything into our SUV (including the dog) to go play in it.

This is what the last half of the 2 1/2 hour drive

looked like as we got closer to northern Arizona.

It was so nice when we finally arrived at our friend’s cabin in Flagstaff.

This is a view of the back of the cabin.

(Purty, huh?)

The boys couldn’t wait to go play in the snow.

(See what an awesome photographer I am?

My lovely silouette at the bottom of this pic was totally planned!)

Even our dog, Princess Leia, wanted to play!

“Ain’t I cute with snow frozen on my lady-beard?”

What a face!

Yes, I dressed her up in a fuzzy pink coat.

(Don’t judge.)

The next morning, I captured the snow blowing off of the trees.

It was such a beautiful sight to behold, until of course,

the wind shifted, blowing a pile of snow onto my head.

(And no, I didn’t capture a picture of that!)

Dusty snow

Then, we decided to drive another hour and a half further north

to visit the south side of the Grand Canyon.

Beautiful view

Needless to say the views were…well…GRAND!

And lastly, here’s me the pup and my sweet kiddo.

Shortly after taking this photo, we re-packed up the SUV and headed home.

It was a wonderful spontaneous weekend away!

Happy Trails,

    Fantastic! Love the photos.

I take issue with calling that lovely (large fancy) home a cabin. That is NOT a cabin LOL. A gorgeous house in the woods is not a cabin. I'll show you a cabin, up where my relatives in Maine live….

It's kind of like my in-laws buying a 4 bedroom contemporary house on Cape Cod, with full heat and central air and all the usual nice home features, they called it a cottage, becuase back in the day they'd go to the Cape and rent a real cottage. LOL

    Beautiful, just beautiful!

And there ARE lots of cabins in Maine, but you won't find many that look like THAT house! LOL

WOW!! My kind of trip! And what lovely images you captured.

  4. What an amazing trip! The snow photos looked like you were in the Austrian Alps and the other photos… well, er, looked like you were somewhere around the Grand Canyon!

    Simply awesome – both sets

  5. Lovely photos! And what a GREAT cabin. The doggie sweater cracks me up. =)

AMAZING! Very, very jealous here. "Purty" is most definitely an understatement. Looks like a wonderful time….ah…refreshment! So glad you linked it up today!

I've linked lots of posts at the Hop, but today I linked up a Hip Homeschool DAD post!! I linked a wonderful post by my co-blogger, Arby, at The Homeschool Apologist! If you wouldn't mind, could you stop by and let him know that HIP homeschoolers can be moms or dads!! :-) He's probably gonna be mad I did this to him, so it might not hurt if you mentioned what a GREAT blogging partner he has! :-)

Beautiful pics!! We went to Arizona for vacation last year and LOVED it! It was funny…We flew into Phoenix the day they had their first 100 degree day. My kids were so hot and complained the whole day. Then, 3 days later when we were in Flagstaff we had snow flurries! We all got a kick out of 100 degree temps and snow all on the same vacation! :)

Wow! I'd love to take a spontaneous trip to that cabin! How blessed you are. I've never seen the Grand Canyon and your photos make me want to travel cross-country to see in person! Thanks for sharing!

I love flagstaff, my mom is thinking about buying a condo up there! So excited. We live in the phoenix area, had no idea you live in AZ!

Wow – beautiful photos! I have to drive 6 hours to see snow (we live in Australia), but the snow isn't as lovely as that and we don't have a Grand Canyon either!

And, err, yeah, that's not a cabin! It's bigger than my house!

  17. What a trip! I love to pick up and go at the spur of a moment. We'll be headed to the Grand Canyon later this year, driving several hours out of our way to get there. We just couldn't go anywhere near it out West and not make that stop! Love the pics! :)
