In My Life This Week…
Do you remember having braces?
Do you remember when the Orthodontist said that you had an overbite and that you would need to wear these annoying little rubber bands hooked from your front upper teeth, down to your back lower teeth to supposedly pull your bite into place?
Yeah well, my sweet son had that moment at his Ortho appointment earlier this week and we’ve both been suffering ever since!
I have had my fingers in my son’s mouth more this week helping him put on those crazy bands than when he was a teething, bouncing baby boy. – Poor thing!
I guess it’s the price he and I BOTH have to pay for a killer set of chompers.
Hopefully, his wife will thank me someday. ![]()
In Our Homeschool This Week…
I just found out that the start date for our Classical Conversations homeschool group next month will be on Monday, August 15th.
I am so excited to start this new program and I’m hoping that my son loves it.
A Question I Have…
For those of you currently taking a summer break, have you set a start date for your upcoming homeschool year yet?
I Am Grateful For… (& what I’m reading)
I have been reading a GREAT new book this week and it has been blessing me like crazy. Educating the Wholehearted Child by Clay & Sally Clarkson is such an encouraging book and has really helped me sort out some troubled spots in our homeschool.
I haven’t read through the entire book yet, but the chapter on keeping order in your home is helping me figure out some home managements issues that I’ve been having lately.
I have a feeling that I’ll be sharing more about this book as I read more.
A Quote to Share…
Does this sentiment hit the nail on the head or what?!?
“Whoever says that homeschooling
isn’t a full-time career obviously has not
applied for the job lately.“

We usually start our school year around the 3rd week in August as well. But I'm not sure about this year. We'll see how prepared I am. If not, we might not start until Sept 6th.
I like that quote and my thoughts go out to your son. I had these type of braces (http://www.ewooddental.co.uk/services/orthodontic-dentistry/removable-braces.html?movieShown=yes) when I was at high school.
Were gonna start in the middle of Aug I think. I was going to start Aug 1st but I have a few things to get out of the way before we start.
Oh, I had braces twice! The first time I stopped wearing my retainer and they went back. So painful! We don't have a firm date to start yet. I am thinking when our outside activities start back in mid-August. I love that book by the Clarksons. I re-read it when I need a boost.
I don't know how, but I managed to skip braces. I remember my sister having a terrible time though! My husband had them too, so I'm assuming that my children may come across that road sooner or later. Thank you for sharing the book you're reading – I'll check it out! I adore Sally Clarkson.
We are starting back then too – my son's CC class in on Tuesday the 16th though. It will be fun to go through this together!
We are starting August 1st. It's really approaching faster than I'd like. But, this also means I'll be linking-up again in just a few short weeks.
As of right now our plan is to start back on Monday August 29th
I remember those horrible rubber bands on my braces. Except, I didn't have anyone to help me, because when I had braces I was already a mommy.
I think we will start school around my sister's birthday, which is August 23. It happens to be when we started the past couple of years, when we used a charter. I think the date will be good this year, too.
We're officially starting back (First Grade!) September 8th. Hey, that's 2 months from today! This past year we started the day after Labor Day, and planned to do that this year, but MFW guide suggested starting on a Thursday, so we're gonna do that.
We start sometime around September 1st. It depends on if we spend Labor Day with family or not…and then we start the Monday after Labor Day.
I love that quote and I really need to read that book…. I've heard soo many good things about it;)
I had braces
but my mom worked for the orthodontist so we got a HUGE financial break… free!! but my mom had to work on me, which was fine for us;) So my straight teeth are also a testimony to her HARD work:)
I was going to wait until the 15th of August as we need to get started on Botany before the cold weather sets in in Ohio but I've decided that almost 3 months off is enough so we'll be starting on August 1st this year. They've had most of May, all of June and July off.
As for braces, oh do I remember, the weekly tightening. We've already been told all three of ours will need them in the future.
I hope his future spouse thanks you! I wish I had the opportunity for braces as a teen, and I wish I had the money for braces for my kids.
Love the quote
I have put the book on hold at the library, thanks for the recommendation
We are hoping to start either August 30 or September 6… it depends on when my oldest starts (he is the only one of my children public schooled) It is his Senior year and so he won't have the same start date as usual… waiting to figure that out.
I have Educating the Whole Hearted Child on my wishlist for a while. I think I may have to order it after reading your post.
I wore braces (including head gear, yuck!), so I can remember your son's pain. But my teeth are still straight without an overbite, so the pain was worth it. And yes, his future wife will appreciate it
As for school, we do a little over the summer, but officially start after Labor Day. It makes life a little easier that way.
