In Our Nest This Week…

In my life this week…

What did my family do to celebrate the Labor Day holiday?

Nothing.

It was fabulous!

In our homeschool this week…

Technically, it’s a Labor Day holiday week off for us because our Classical Conversations program meets on Mondays, but we decided to keep working instead.  (And when I say “we” I mean me.)

My son was thrilled that we already had a week off after only 2 weeks of school, but alas, his mean ol’ schoolmarm made him work on his math, geography and Latin everyday.

He’s sooooooo mistreated, don’t you think?

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

I shared this helpful little tip on my facebook page yesterday, but I think that it’s so awesome, I’m going to share it again!

If your kids struggle to keep their numbers neat & aligned when working math problems, have them use graph paper.

My son’s math work went from a sloppy mess to perfectly aligned almost immediately.

Check HERE for free downloads of multiple-sized graph paper from the amazing Donna Young!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

My Hubby and I will be heading out to Laguna Beach next weekend and I cannot wait to get out of this insane Arizona heat!

It was 108 degrees here today.:(

My favorite thing this week was…

My son and I used this week  to get a jump start on next week’s work and I feel so much less stressed about our heavy workload.

Ahhh….It’s such a good feeling to get ahead of the game!

Things I’m working on…

Well, I did it.  It took me awhile to pull everything together, but The Homeschool Chick Store is now open for business!!!

For those of you that requested an “I homeschool. What’s your superpower?” t-shirt or coffee mug, I’ve got you covered.

I plan to add a few other products over the next few days, but check out the 3 items that I have so far and let me know what you think.;)

I’m reading…

Now that I’m done with The Help, I’ve been on the prowl for some new books to read.

Does any one have any good suggestions?  Any good fiction that you’re loving that I should know about?

I’m heading out of town next weekend and need a good read for the airplane.

I’m grateful for…

95 homeschool moms linked up to The Homeschool Mother’s Journal last week.  WOW!

I don’t know about all of you, but I just get so blessed reading all of your different journal posts and peeking into your lives each week.

Questions/thoughts I have…

Because our group is growing bigger & bigger each week, I’m not always able to visit your sites and leave comments on each of your posts as much anymore.

If I’ve never popped over to your site and left a comment on your journal post, would you leave me a comment or shoot me an email and let me know?

I’d really like to try to connect with each you if I can!

Happy Homeschooling,

The heat has been absolutely miserable here, but we have had some relief this week. Thankfully. I love your tip on the graph paper for math!!! I am going to definitely try that. Thank you for this place to come together.

  2. The Night Circus comes out on the 13th. I read an ARC for review and it is the best book I have read all year. Enchanting.

It is wonderful to see how much this meme has grown. How could you get around to visit and comment on everyone's posts. There is no way you would be on the computer forever. I've stated before and will state it again, don't fret the fact you can't get to everyone's blog, instead rejoice that people want to share.

Love your suggestion, I will remember that when Selena begins to truly write.

      Gail –

The server that my new store sits on had some maintenance issues this morning, but is up and running now. Phew!

I'm on my way over to your blog right now to say hello. :)

I'd love to have you stop by my blog as well. I appreciated the email from you the other day about the Xpeditions Atlas site. As for good fiction … the Acts of Faith series by Davis Bunn and Janette Oke, the Elm Creek Quilts series by Jennifer Chiaverini, and the Seven Wonders series by T.L. Higley are all ones I've enjoyed.

Congratulations on your shop being up and running for business! I am quite tempted to buy a "I Homeschool What's Your Superpower?" mug from you. :-)

  7. Julie says:

Sounds like a nice week to me! I have to have the coffee mug. LOVE it! (after next payday, you can count on me!) Thanks!!!

The graph paper is a great idea. We're trying to undo something I accidentally taught Ben right now. I'm left-handed while he's right-handed. I accidentally hooked him (you know, the left handed hook where the hand is essentially above what's being written — who knew that if a righty watched a lefty write, he would do the same thing in reverse). It is really hard to figure out how to help him overcome that habit. Maybe graph paper would help that, too :) .

  9. Linking up for the first time!

  10. Laurie says:

Awww, how sweet of you to want to visit everyone in your busy days! I so appreciate you putting this together! I have lots of family and friends who enjoy the journal aspect, because it causes me to blog about aspects I don't normally think of writing about!

    Blessings,

    Laurie

Thank you so much for the graph paper idea – we are working on triple digit division – and I cannot keep it straight when my son is doing it! I am going to try this tomorrow!!

    Thanks!
