My coffeemaker broke.
My fancy new Keurig coffeemaker BROKE and left me coffee-less for days this week!
As I laid my head on my desk grunting at my son to finish his Math, he gently said to me, “Um…Mom, if we don’t make a Starbucks run this morning, we might not make it ’til lunch.”
Oh boy! Does that kid know his mama well or what?
In our homeschool this week…
Geography! Geography! Geography!
We are studying & drawing Canada this week and I CAN NOT stop singing their national anthem. “O, Canada! Our home and native land….”
I blame the recent winter Olympics and our being forced to listen to their anthem over and over again because of all of the gold medals they stole from the USA won.
(Okay, maybe I’m still a tiny bit bitter about the men’s hockey game.)![]()
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
I loved this great homeschooling tip from Kim of Is There a Bathroom on This Ship Blog in her journal post last week:
“Follow your heart, and don’t be afraid to march to the beat of your own drum.”
I am inspired by…
There are a few posts from around the blog-O-sphere that inspired me this week :
Emerging, Not Merging by Sarah Mae encouraged my heart.
Finding Your Tribe May Be the Hardest Thing You Ever Do by Jeff Goins made me really start to re-think my online presence.
Because You Can’t Fight Your Calling by Boo Mama because she and her rant about snack crackers made me LOL!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
I am joining my hubby on a business trip this weekend in Laguna Beach and I’m so excited!
I know that it may sound weird, but I think that I’m actually looking forward to the room service more than anything.
What’s working/not working for us…
The Compact Atlas of the World that we are using for Geography is driving me bananas!
This particular atlas was included in the Classical Conversations Challenge A program list this year, and my son and I are finding that not everything that we need to locate each week is actually included in it.
Can anyone suggest a more exhaustive atlas that we could buy?
I know that we can just look things up on the internet, but I’m really wanting my son to sharpen his map reading skills using an actual book.
I’m reading…
Thanks so much for all of the great book suggestions last week!
I am still on the hunt for more, but have looked into several of the titles that you all shared with me and have even bought a few to take along on my trip this weekend.
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
Um, you didn’t actually think that I would let any of you read this post and leave without this song stuck in your head too, did you?

Thanks for the earworm. I'll now be singing 'O Canada!' half the night! I am highly susceptible to earworm suggestion.
So can relate to that morning coffee issue. One should always have a backup coffee maker, just in case!
It was a good hockey game!! lol
There are three that the Geography Matters curriculum recommend and sell. These are what we have been looking at getting. I also want one of those US Atlases that have all of the laminated pages for when we are on the road.
You are not alone in the coffee boat, I promise.
Yikes! No morning coffee, I would be in a bind here.
I thought BooMama's cracker recap was hilarious too!
Happy Geography!
I am the same way with a little song we know about Australia…once I get it in my head, I can't stop singing it.
Sorry I seem to have an outdated version of this Journal. I will be sure to add the new list of questions to my blog next week:)
Thanks for hosting.
Awww … thanks for mentioning my advice from last week. I definitely march to the beat of my own drum!
I will be singing O Canada now – the problem is my tween is starting an in-depth study of Romania. LOL!
Your son is a very, very wise lad! Let's hear it for better homeschooling through Starbucks coffee.

Being Canadian (but not at all biased..ho hum) I think that was a great game.
It's funny, I learned the Canadian national anthem in French before I learned it in English..And of course, the song is a bit different in each language to make it flow right. So when my dad was teaching me the anthem in English, I didn't believe him that the words "O Canada" were said so many times in the English version because they aren't in the French version
I personally don't get all worked up about profanity, but—for the sake of those with more scruples—I really think you ought to substitute "Oh, C*****a!" instead of spelling it out. : )
Have a wonderful trip! We did Canada last year in geography too and loved it. Our DK Geography of the World has a lots of good information in it!
Haha! Your son's comment about the coffee is awesome! So cute!
Have fun on your trip!! I love getting to go with my hubby on business trips! So fun!
I'm going to opt not to listen to the song…I don't need that stuck in my head all day! lol!
I so love reading your weekly journal posts. Love the comment about the coffee – my son has said something similar and it cracks me up how well they pay attention to our lives
We have a Keurig too and after about 9 months it broke. I saw several comments on Amazon that it is a common thing
I called the company and after trying to troubleshoot some things they finally agreed to send a brand new one. 2 days later a new one showed up on my doorstep. i used my handy french press until then – so thankful I kept it! Just wanted to encourage you to call them if you haven't already. they stand behind their warrenty
What?! No coffee, you say?! Why that's like a day with no air to breathe!
We're Canadians transplanted to the US and we thought it was a fantastic hockey game!!! 8-D
I feel for ya with the broken coffeemaker. I don't think I could even get myself out of bed if there was no coffee waiting for me in my kitchen!
Looks like my Journal categories are a little different too. If I remember, I will try to update for next week!
I love the comment about Starbucks. We like to do our schoolwork at Starbucks from time to time
I love our anthem. It's so majestic and…you got it…catchy!

Well, we're Canadian too. Did you realize how many Canadians fans you have reading your blog?
We're also studying our great country for geography and history and having so much fun. The Inuit are our faves and in my opinion, are the bravest people in North America. Enjoy!
God keep our land glorious and free!
