We took a little break from homeschooling this week and you know what I did?
It was too stink’n in hot here in AZ to go outside and enjoy the “autumn” weather, so I sat around in my air conditioned house and cleaned out my email boxes. (Yes, they were that full!)
Not very exciting to the average person, but I gave myself a little pat on the back when I was done.
It’s the simple things, right?
In our homeschool this week…
I had hoped that my son would get some schoolwork done this week even though we were officially on “fall break” from our Classical Conversations program, but he was feeling worn out and really needed to have some downtime. So, as I sat at my computer cleaning out my email box, he sat at the computer next to me goofing off, doing nothing important at all.
…and it was glorious.
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
It’s taken me awhile to really figure out when my son needs me to push him and when he needs some room to breathe.
This week was a pause & breathe week, but next week it’s “back to work” time.
Balancing the act of pushing and pulling back is important for any mother to master, but for us homeschool moms I think it’s critical to keep your kids from homeschool burn out.
What’s working for us…
Oh my goodness! I have found the most awesome solution to our atlas problem!!!
Months ago, I purchased the National Geographic World Atlas app for my iPad and completely forgot about it until this week.
I really wanted a hold-in-your-hands book, but this is so much more thorough than any book I could find. It’s only $1.99 and is probably the BEST iPad purchase I’ve made to date.
I’m grateful for…
I am grateful for my air conditioner, which I cranked down to a balmy 78 degrees while the rest of you were pulling out your warm sweaters and posting pictures on facebook of the beautiful autumn leaves in your yard.
(I’m trying very hard to keep my weather envy in check until our beautiful winter arrives.)

YIKES! It's still hot there! I don't remember it being that hot the year I lived out there! Great App! Maybe one day we'll get an iPad!
Ohhh! I'll have to check and see if they have the app for my android or tablet!
I am sorry things are hot your way! We are wet here on the east coast… in fact, our state flower has been replaced by mildew. I would love me some sunshine!
LOVE that balance you have found…awesome!
Thanks for sharing the app…I will pass it on to my friend who has an ipad.
Wow… and I thought we Floridians didn't get "fall". Sheesh! We had about 9 days of Florida-Autumn (that meant breezes and about 75-80 degrees *lol* And then the regular temps returned. I had to shut up the house and turn the ac back on. SO I feel ya!
Goodness!! Those temps are ridiculous!! We had the extreme summer but thankfully we seem to be moving into fall nicely. It's still been warmer than usual some days but at least on most we've had nice temps. Hope you guys cool down soon!!!
so glad you got some down time…i felt myself relaxing as i read about your week
hope you get some cooler weather soon…we got our first snow last saturday!
Oh, I don't think I could live AZ! Our HIGHS are lower than your lows! We haven't turned on the heat yet and a couple of mornings it was 58 degrees INSIDE.
So sorry about the heat:( I'm afraid that I would be a little cranky! We experienced the 100 degree plus heat this summer, and I don't miss it at all. Thank goodness fall finally arrived- now we're making soup for dinner and wrapping up in blankets every evening. Sounds like you had a nice week and made the best of it though. Wish I could send some fall weather your way!
Hello from the also still rather HOT FL!
My blogging keeps linking instead of homeschooling …

ack ….
It's been unseasonably warm here in Ohio but finally feeling better, which is perfect for the weekend. I'll have to check out that app for my iPod and hopefully for a tablet of some sort for Christmas
Your point about knowing when the push and when to pull back spoke volumes. I feel like I'm struggling with that on a daily basis.
That globe app is very cool!
Ah, yes, those email inboxes! I have almost 2000 to clear out. How do others manage to keep up? There must be a way!
I'm glad yours are clean.
Annie Kate
Thank you for sharing that wisdom on pausing and breathing. There must be something about the six-week mark that calls for a p&b…I felt it too so I smattered them in over the past couple of weeks.
I love this Globe app idea. I will be looking into that as our globe broke last year and I have not purchased a new one!
Maybe you could pray some of that heat up here to Oregon. We had a skimpy summer, maybe a week of autumn and then this week it felt like winter was ushered in!
Oh I remember those days, we lived in Az for 17 years. Come Thanksgiving, it will cool off some. Our fall break is that week. Glad you found the solution to your Atlas book. Have a good week back. Thank you for doing this meme, it really keeps me posting and I enjoy reading the link ups each week.
If only I had an IPad, sigh.
I got your Autumn right here. It's beautiful in my neck of the woods. Crisp, cool mornings, leaves changing, fresh hot cider, apple pies…ok, I won't torture you any longer.
I hope you get a break in the weather soon.
