In my life this week…
The Christmas tree made it’s way out of our scorpion-infested attic this past weekend thanks to my son and husband who wrestled its plastic piney goodness through the small opening in our garage ceiling.
It’s now nestled in a place of honor between the dog’s water dish and her basket of squeaky toys. Needless to say, my furry little Shihtzu is none too pleased.
It’s almost completely decorated except for a topper of some kind, which I cannot find to save my life!
I considered going with a more modern look, adding some twigs & feathers to the top, but my husband informed me that a “Big Bird” tree topper might not compliment our decor.
So, the topper hunt continues.
*Sigh*
In our homeschool this week…
Modify
& Press on.
This is my new philosophy for the remainder of our homeschool year.
We really do love our Classical Conversations group and I really am sold on the classical education model. Although, I don’t necessarily always agree with CC’s interpretation of how the classical model should be implemented, I just can’t argue with the high level of work my son is producing this year.
Soooooooo, after much complaining contemplation and prayer, we have decided to stick it out to the end of the year, but plan to modify our workload along the way.
*Phew!*
Homeschooling is a roller coaster sometimes, isn’t it?!?
Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…
I think that taking each day, each semester, and each year as it comes is really important.
As homeschool moms we’re in a constant state of evaluating everything we’re doing and we need to remember to pause, catch our breath, and not get ahead of ourselves sometimes.

I love this post from my friend Louanne over at Hip Homeschool Moms this week:
I think that she hits the nail on the head when she reminds us to focus on the reasons that we started homeschooling, other than focusing on what everyone else is doing.
Such good advice!
My favorite thing this week was…
This may sound crazy, but my favorite thing this week was when I forgot to set my alarm clock on Tuesday night.
I slept in until 9 the next morning. On a Wednesday. It was glorious!
Questions/thoughts I have…
We have two weeks left of homeschool before we take time off for Christmas.
When are you going to break for the holidays and how long are you going to take off?
I’m reading…
I just got a new book called, Homeschool Supermom…NOT!, by Susan Kemmerer and am really enjoying it so far.
Wanna know how I got this snazzy new homeschool book?
I won it.
Wanna know how?
Apparently, I won a Homeschool Misfit award over HERE
Wanna know which one?
The Snarky Homeschooler Award
Ha!
Isn’t that hilarious?!?

After this week, we are down to about a week before Christmas break! I'm so excited!!
Great advice about homeschooling – modify and press on – love it!
I love the photos of your tree!! So pretty!!
Excellent motto to carry forward !! Thank you.
We are not taking a Christmas break as we are due for a long trip over April / May next year so it's press on for us.
Love your tree pics. Great inspiration
I have another HMJ topic we can add…MISHAPS from the week. Oh my goodness, did we have a few!
Love your statement about focusing on why we homeschool rather than what others are doing.
Ah…sleeping in!
And that is great advice for the holidays!
Your tree is lovely!
And what a sweet delight that long sleep was.
We have been using a large and lovely angel for our tree topper for years. It's lovely to look at and full of sweet family memories. But one year, due to a variety of Sandwich Generation health and family issues, we had just a very tiny tree up high and the angel would have toppeled the tree! My granddaughter REALLY missed the tree angel so we found an adorable "crochet-look" one for a couple of bucks and used it. Now we're back to the big tree, the big angel, AND the little angel nestles lower, full of different, but equally sweet family memories that are making me smile as I type this.
My grandkids are in two homeschool coops – one ended for the year a couple of weeks ago – the other has another week or so to go. And we are enjoying fun and inspirational Advent and Christmas activities for the kids centered around one of Amanda Bennett's great little monthly ebooks – focusing on Jesus and prophecies.
Thanks for a lovely visit. Have a blessed week!
I love that you got the Snarky Homeschooler award!!
Since you're talking holidays, I thought I'd go ahead and give you an idea for an Easter project. I know it's a little early, but time does fly! When you get to Easter, you might be interested in using my book "What's in an Egg?". Glorifying God, it is an introduction to reproduction in a natural way using duck eggs. A great addition to an art project dipping eggs!
We have a Classical Conversations Group here, but after hearing about the work load from many of the moms I chose NOT to go that way.
We seem to start Christmas Break around Thanksgiving, well we cut way back on our studies and just allow learning to happen on its own.
I am modifying and moving on as well. For the next 3 weeks we will put aside everything except math and beginning digging into writing papers. I am very excited to face my arch-enemy head on.
Being a military family we have the phrase "adapt and overcome", we use it a lot around here
I did CC for a year and I did enjoy the philosphy, encorporate it still, but the work load was just too much for me. We fell behind with all the memorization. I understand your dliemma!
Woohoo on the snarky award! I don't comment much but I do enjoy your blog!! Congrats!
Oh what a week … and no, i do not have my HSMJ post together yet .. today, maybe tonight … ack … maybe i should put the main tree up instead. Yes, the main tree since i have done two big and three small ones already.
Wine anyone?
CC is hard work – kudos to you for seeing it thro …
I should go and post now shouldn't I
Wonderful advice and at exactly the right time for us.
Love the placement of the tree and good luck on your topper. I can never figure out what I want on mine. LOL
Enjoyed your motto too! Liked your advice today too, it is what I needed to hear!
Blessings,
Amy
Sweet Sue…you crack me up! SNARKY! HAHAHA! I hear your sweet voice in all that you write…not sarcasm!!! Can't wait to see a pic of that little pooch …and the tree!!!! Sending hugs…getting excited about some BLISS fun!
I so agree with modify and press on.
And, I am sorry. I goofed when linking up. so #35 goes back to your post and number 36 is my actual link up.
Christmas… break…??? I'm supposed to add ANOTHER thing to the calendar? ((sigh)) Really, we're leaving on the 20th to go for the Family Christmas (dun dun dunnnn insert scary music here), but I don't know how long we'll stay "off." The kids tend to run wild if we stay away from our routines too long.
BTW, I think you're brave for even having that tree down from the scorpion infested attic. I'm pretty sure I would've burned the house down if I saw a scorpion. But then, that's why I don't live in the desert. You are a brave, brave woman. I am a wuss. I want to be like you when I grow up. Seriously. Kudos to you.
OH! And congratulations on the award!! LOL That's actually really really cool!!
I needed to hear your advice as well. I like the pictures of your tree. The book that you're reading sounds very interesting! I hope you have a wonderfully peaceful weekend!
Are you snarky? I've never noticed. But I love your sense of humor. Maybe that reveals something about *me*.
I love the "modify and press on" advice too!
I could totally use some more sleep myself!!
